how to improve credit score of 171 FAST?

I am a student and have just recently started building my credit, i applied for a credit card at a student union and have been paying it off regularly (sometimes i pay it a few days after using it—long before i even get the bill–is this good or bad?) what other way can i build my credit score fast and how can i check to see what is it?
btw i have no debt of any kind

daljack 99% of the time those things on the curbs are broken or gross. When I have things to pass on I make sure it's something I would want myself.
