Anyone else find it weird for Uni students to keep their cars at home while at Uni and use them just when ..?

they’re on holidays at home?
i just don’t understand how they’d do the car insurance, and surely it’s a waste of money?
to be honest though it just annoys me that my friends do this as I live at home for Uni and I can’t afford a car and woulduse it more than them. Just wondering if a lot of people do this?
